This is me, Emily Jancic. In 2014, we brought our first little baby bundle home to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I was swimming in strollers and blankets and diapers, but I looked high and low and found nothing helpful for his chubby little feet.
Socks slip off. Shoes hurt.
Socks slipped off, and I'd have to keep putting them back on. (No, thanks.) Shoes were cute. But left red marks. And flat, rigid shoes seem unnatural on a teeny foot that was still learning to walk. The booties I found were either frumpy and over complicated or leather and not adjustable and washable. Plus, babies don't need a basket of socks and a line of shoes along the wall.
I had a kind of “ok I have to figure this out” moment when in a matter of just two days, two different friends—one losing a baby sock on the street, the other a shoe—told me how frustrated they were. I was like, "Wow, I can't believe we put a man on the moon, and we haven't figured this out." I wanted to make a sock and shoe in one. Completely washable. Wearable indoors and out.
No, you're obsessed.
First, I cut up a single pair of my son's socks and added snaps.
Four years later, I had tested magnetic closures, snaps, elastic, leather, silicone, pineapple and other vegan leather, cotton and much more. I measured stranger's babies feet. Am I a perfectionist or a slow learner? Not sure. But, after much learning and testing,
I'm so proud to share HARTS Bootees with you.
It's a Sock. It's a Shoe.
It's a sock. It's a shoe. They are 100% machine washable, cruelty-free, adjustable, slip-on, stay-on and made with love from Brooklyn. Best of all, one pair is all you need.
I hope they will simplify your life. And give you less stress and more joy.
